Singing is primal.
Singing is simple.

Sound is inside us, waiting to be released.

I’m Joe Morgan, a musician who finds deep enjoyment helping other singers and artists create—especially people who don’t consider themselves musicians… yet.

Whether you’ve never sung or played a note in your life, or if your experience leaves you thinking there’s nothing left to learn, there is fulfillment and joy in discovering a new, fresh angle on what music can be.

My approach

Try. Experiment. Listen. Feel. Fail. Succeed. Assess. And repeat.

Acceptance and appreciation of our voice makes us better today, and excited to discover new territory tomorrow.

I encourage my students to feel the joy in the process, where nothing is wrong, where failure is welcomed, and discoveries are celebrated.

For this, I play the role of the guide, suggesting paths to take—whether with vocal technique, musical choices, or liberating your creativity.

“I’ve worked with Joe for nearly a decade and he has been an incredible source of technical knowledge and encyclopedic insight into vocalists and their approaches. He has been especially helpful with his work focusing on guitarists transitioning to vocalists. Not to mention he’s just a great dude and someone I’m lucky to consider a friend.”

—Jeff Yasuda, lead vocals and guitar, Fuzz Collective

Let’s play together

It's not just about new technique. It's about fresh perspectives and ideas to consider. It's about confidence and comfort in the process of taking chances. I provide 4 different modes of practicing that each have clear goals and intentions.

By working in those modes, we can then reach a more free and creative moment of performance.

Let's experiment. Let's play. Let's go.

A bit about me…

I’m originally from Chicago, landing on Kauai via the Bay Area, Salt Lake City, Seattle, and LA. During my 20’s and 30’s I worked in Chicago as a studio musician, singer/songwriter, and an actor performing in films and on stages such as Wisdom Bridge, Victory Gardens, and The Chicago Dramatists Workshop.

Originally, I started playing trumpet at age 7, then added voice, guitar, and acting in high school. Vocally, I’ve trained in many methods, styles, and performed in a number of settings—studio, stage, classical, opera, chamber music, jazz ensemble, singer/songwriter, and a cappella groups.

Teaching was something I always did alongside my other work. I realized that it was my strongest offering and where I was most fulfilled. I came to understand that teaching largely involves leveraging my own experience — no matter the artistic discipline or athletic endeavor — along with stoking a curiosity in the student, all this while reading the individual to determine what may serve them best. It means bringing my own experience, mistakes, and discoveries to another’s development.

I live on the island of KauaiI with my wife, son, and two dogs.
